Every manuscript is different, and so is every editorial process. Below are answers to the questions I’m asked most often.
If you don’t see your question here, feel free to include it in your inquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What genres do you work in?
I primarily edit romance (and erotica), speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, horror), and poetry. I also enjoy editing mystery/detective fiction, select works of literary fiction, and academic nonfiction in the humanities. I’m particularly interested in manuscripts that value voice, inclusion, atmosphere, creativity, and structural integrity.
What type of editing do I need?
That depends on where your manuscript stands. Developmental editing addresses structure, pacing, argument, and thematic cohesion. Line editing refines language at the sentence level, working with syntax, diction, and tone. Copyediting focuses on grammar, consistency, and technical polish. If you’re unsure, check out the services section for more information or describe the project in your inquiry and I’ll recommend the appropriate type.
Do you edit explicit content?
Yes. I approach erotic material with the same seriousness, discretion, and attention to craft as I would any other material. My focus is always on clarity, intention (consent, enjoyment, desire), and emotional coherence — never sensationalism.
Do you edit academic work?
Yes. I work with scholars and researchers seeking organizational clarity, argumentative rigor, and careful attention to tone. I am comfortable working within major citation systems, fact checking research, and preparing manuscripts for publication or review.
Will you rewrite my manuscript?
No. My role is to refine, not replace. I offer guidance, suggestions, and structural insight while preserving your voice and authority as the author.
How long does the process take?
Timelines vary depending on manuscript length and level of edit. Once I review your project details, I will provide a realistic schedule.
Is my work confidential?
Absolutely. All manuscripts and correspondence are treated with discretion and professional confidentiality.
Do you offer sample edits?
I may offer a brief sample edit (typically 1–2 pages) to ensure we are a good fit before committing to a full project.
Good editing is not cosmetic. It is architectural. It strengthens the integrity of the work while preserving its original intention. I approach each manuscript with care and discernment, and I accept projects when I believe the collaboration will be substantive and productive. If that sounds aligned, I look forward to hearing from you.
